Last Tuesday we had the pleasure of hearing from Laura Blanchard and Maria Kurian from Mary MacKillop Today.  They gave us a background of the organisation, founded in the spirit of Saint Mary MacKillop, which has programs in Australia and internationally that focus on education, health, financial inclusion and livelihoods.

In particular they spoke in regard to the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Tertiary Scholarship Program which has assisted 120 students to successfully reach graduation and currently has 90 students receiving scholarships. We are very pleased to have a future association with the organisation and will provide funds from our World Festival of Magic to future scholarship programs.

The Rotary Foundation’s “Ride to End Polio” will take place on Friday, 28 September and we will meet one of the trains the participants will be aboard when it stops at Milsons Point station at 7.42am.  I invite members to join us at the station entrance from 7am to assist with a “bucket collection” from commuters – I have a number of red “End Polio Now” T shirts for those in attendance to wear.

Our next speaker on Tuesday, 25 September will be Tony McGuire with his topic – Good Sports Program.
