At our first breakfast of 2019 it was nice to catch up with members and visitors to hear from our speaker Kim Evensen, the founder of “Brothers”. This organisation was founded by Kim to empower and inspire men and boys to create strong, wholesome and authentic male friendships, as well as combat damaging cultural influences that can hinder them for doing so.

Later that morning PP Iain and I visited the Chatswood offices of Northside Community Forum Inc. to present our cheque for $10,000 to Danielle Ballantine, CEO. This sum was part of the funds raised from our involvement in the World Festival of Magic and will be helping with the YourSide “Young Carers of Northern Sydney” program.  This program supports young people aged 18 years and under who help to support a family member or friend who has a disability, mental illness, drug or alcohol dependence, chronic condition, or who is frail.

It provides mentoring, tutoring, respite and social activities to enable these young carers to connect with other young carers.

I am delighted to advise that our club member and local MP Felicity Wilson gave birth to a baby girl, Eleanor, on 29 December. Our very best wishes to Felicity, Eleanor and Sam on this happy occasion.

On Tuesday, 15 January Lindsay May, having completed his record breaking 46th consecutive Sydney Hobart race will give an overview of the race together with some spectacular photographs of the event.
