We had a full house last week indicating the strong local interest in a proposal to create the Sydney Harbour High Line through Lavender Bay and Waverton. Ian Mutton presented an account of discussions and negotiations amongst some of the interested parties, which include the State Government, RailCorp, North Sydney Council, the owners of Luna Park, Wendy Whitely and residents of Lavender Bay and Waverton. Needless to say, the stakeholders make a very diverse group and opinions regarding the best way forward are correspondingly divided. The popular vision of heritage trains sharing a strip park with walkers and cyclists seems to be some way off.

Our next meeting will be the last for this Rotary year and consequently, it will be devoted to the business of distributing remaining funds among the many worthy causes we have heard about this year and those which we always support. In doing so, we shall keep in mind the distribution goals agreed in May, where we balance Rotary projects, our community and overseas assistance. During this meeting, we shall formally approve our application to the Rotary Foundation to match our donation to the Living Fences project in eastern Indonesia. Finally, our last meeting will celebrate the induction of our newest member, a great way to wrap up this year!

Guests are always welcome.
