One of life’s mysteries is the success of Michael Flanders and Donald Swann in entertaining Australians in the early 1960s. Much to my surprise, evidence surfaced again on Tuesday after dinner when Noel Cislowski was cajoled to give us an impromptu performance of The Hippopotamus Song (aka Mud, mud, glorious mud!), to which a remarkable number of us knew the words!

About 20 members, partners and friends attended Piato’s for an informal dinner, which replaced our breakfast meeting and offered an opportunity for chatting and catching up with our extended Rotary family. We know it is important for our new members to meet and get to know all those connected with our Club and discover the tentacles reaching out to the local community.

Arrangements are progressing smoothly to enter an agreement with an impresario experienced in producing entertainments for children, while also generating substantial funds for Rotary projects. This project could be instrumental in transforming the scale of our giving to charitable causes into the future.

Plans are now firmly in place for our Halloween party at the Cammeray Golf Club on 28th October. Reports on Crunching Numbers, the band performing for us have been very positive. Everyone will be very welcome and we look forward to seeing old and young, and everyone in between enjoying themselves on the night!
