President’s Press – 25 January 2018

DG Peter Ward paid his official visit last week. I didn’t ask him what time he had to leave home on the Central Coast to reach us on time at 7:00am, knowing it must have been very early indeed! But after the meeting, I was surprised when he said he needed to get to work. Surely being a District Governor is already a full-time commitment? Few of us realise the dedication of those who freely give so much of themselves to lead Rotary International.

Our first order of business is always to welcome new members and this week was no exception. We are delighted that Allen Colburt has decided to join us and we look forward his involvement and contribution over the coming years. Our report to the DG gave us the opportunity to review our progress during the year and consider our prospects and direction. Peter, while appreciating and complimenting our efforts asked us how we were engaging with our community, and for what are we known in our community. What more might we achieve if we were facilitators helping others to render service? This idea will doubtless be discussed further at our forthcoming forum.

Our map charting Jaz’s progress shows she has now crossed the Nullabor Plain safely and will soon set off north from Perth. Cathie is joining Jaz for this next stage of the trip and we wish them both well!
