Natural Voice Singing

Natural Voices

Patty Zancanaro’s underlying aim is to cultivate people’s love of singing with others and to free people from the notion that singing is only for the talented few.  It’s virtually risk free.  We don’t need to ask permission to sing – it’s a natural process. If you can speak, you can sing. Simple as that!

There is no need to read music.

Patty will talk about the Natural Voice approach to singing which is based on

1.       Facilitating everyone into singing, even those who believe they cannot sing

2.       Creating a judgement-free environment where each voice blends with all the voices around

3.       Bringing more physicality into singing, with people often moving around the space

4.       Using diverse songs ranging from simple childhood rounds to simple and fun songs in other languages.

Patty Zancanaro is a Registered Music Therapist and Singing Group Facilitator.  After going to Law School in the 1970s and practising as a lawyer since 1979, Patty found herself studying Music Therapy at UTS in the late 1990s and in 2000 became a Registered Music Therapist.  Patty’s music therapy work has been mainly with adults with disability, with mental health clients and with children with behavioural and emotional needs.

In 2015 Patty was asked to set up a Mental Health Choir (“Soup and Sing”) at Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre and Patty facilitated this from July 2015 until Dec 2016.  The Choir is continuing today.

In May 2017, Patty participated in a 7 day Natural Voices Training in Oxfordshire with Frankie Armstrong, the godmother of the Natural Voices Network.  On return to Australia, Patty initiated “Natural Voices Northbridge” and rented space at Northbridge Bowling Club for weekly Natural Voice Workshops.
