Voices beyond the suburbs: the soldier settlers of Tuggeranong

After the Great War, 250,000 men returned from active service to try and take up their lives again. Many were embittered, damaged or radicalized by their experiences. The Commonwealth government was anxious to address the needs of these men and created a policy of land settlement as one of the answers. Jenny Horsfield has been looking at the lives of eight of these men who settled on land in the Tuggeranong Valley in Canberra and will talk about their stories.

Jenny Horsfield is a Canberra writer and historian. Her book, ‘Rainbow: the story of Rania MacPhillamy’ won the award for Non-Fiction Book of the Year in the 2008 ACT Writers and Publishers awards.
