Housing both the young and old

Housing both the young and old

Sam has a vision to create a not-for-profit organisation that connects elderly Australians to young university students through housing. Elderly Australians are lonelier than ever, and young people are struggling to find affordable housing in metropolitan areas. The organisation will tackle this by targeting self-sufficient elderly Australians living alone in large homes, and distinguished university students who have integrity, and a desire to serve. The students will pay a small ongoing maintenance fee to the organisation and spend quality interactive time with their elderly housemate, in return for free/discounted rent. Character and criminal background checks will eliminate the risk of elder abuse.

Sam will present his idea and the progress that he has made so far.

Sam Westly is a 23 year old final year university student studying a double degree in Arts & Business / Law.   He is also a community fire unit volunteer, board member of ARC @ UNSW, and has been a director of the UNSW Law Society.
